Our story

Named after paper that lasts a thousand years.

लोक्ता — lokta — is the Himalayan bark paper that has preserved Nepal's manuscripts for over a thousand years. It is the durable substrate on which trusted records are kept.

That is exactly the company we're building. Frontier AI models are easy to call; what's missing is the layer between a raw model and a production system that can be trusted with real work — evaluated, logged, and governed. Loktta is that layer: the durable ground your AI systems are recorded, evaluated, and governed on.

We believe trust in AI can't be imported. It has to be built where the systems are used, in the languages they're used in, on infrastructure the customer controls.

As our founding Engineering Lead, you own the architecture and build of the Loktta platform — the evaluation, agentic, and governance infrastructure behind trustworthy AI. A hands-on role: you set technical direction, write core code, and grow the team from the ground up.

What you'll do

  • Own the platform architecture: agent runtime, evaluation pipeline, and the on-premise deployment toolkit (Kubernetes-based, air-gapped capable).
  • Build core product with your own hands — a builder's role, not just oversight.
  • Establish engineering practices: code quality, reviews, CI/CD, testing, security.
  • Design for sovereignty: on-prem / private-cloud deployment, audit logging, data residency.
  • Lead engineering hiring and mentor the team as it scales.
  • Partner directly with the founder on product and technical trade-offs.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years building production software; strong in backend/platform and/or ML systems.
  • Track record architecting and shipping complex systems from scratch.
  • Depth in one or more: LLM/agent systems, ML infrastructure, distributed systems, cloud-native/Kubernetes, on-prem deployment.
  • Hands-on and standards-setting in an early team.
  • Based in, or willing to relocate to, Kathmandu.
  • Bonus: model evaluation, RAG, or agent frameworks; open-source; founding-team or regulated/enterprise deployment experience.

Evaluation Operations Lead

You own how Loktta measures AI quality and safety. You'll build and run the evaluation pipeline — the methodology, the evaluator team, and client delivery — that lets labs and enterprises prove their AI works, in the languages it actually serves.

What you'll do

  • Own the evaluation pipeline end to end: methodology, rubrics, QA, and client delivery for the evaluation services line.
  • Design multilingual evaluation and red-teaming across our target languages (Nepali, Hindi, Maithili, Bangla, and more).
  • Recruit, train, and manage a team of senior linguists and domain experts.
  • Turn evaluation results into clear, defensible reports for technical clients.
  • Partner with engineering to productize evaluation into the platform.

What we're looking for

  • Background in linguistics, NLP, computational linguistics, or technical operations.
  • Experience running structured evaluation, annotation, QA, or research operations at quality and scale.
  • Strong command of evaluation methodology and a sharp eye for quality.
  • Near-native fluency in one or more target South Asian languages, plus English.
  • People-leadership or team-coordination experience.
  • Bonus: LLM evaluation, red-teaming, or AI safety; annotation platforms and inter-rater reliability; multiple target languages.
